Creating & Assigning Custom Permissions With Screen Shots

Adding Custom Permissions

The System Administrator or users with Root Administrator permissions can create Custom Permissions from any Editor, Screen or View where they see the Green Key Icon  in the upper right hand corner.    The Custom Permission can be set for the entire workspace or a single field.

Create the Custom Permission in the User Permissions View first.  From the menu bar, choose Window >> Show View >> Other

Choose Users & Click OK

Open any user from the list by double clicking on their name

Within the User Permissions grid, find the section where the Custom Permission should belong (Giving permission to a tab on a Customer should go within the Customer permissions)

.

Choose Add Custom Permission...

Give the Custom Permission a meaningful name and Click Finish

The new Custom Permission will appear to be highlighted in Yellow in the list

Each user can now be given permission to the Custom Permission individually

At the Screen, View or Editor that the Custom Permission is meant to control click on the Green Key Icon (usually located to the left of the Editor or in the top right hand corner of a table).

A pop up window will appear that allows you to choose the User Permission that will be used.  Separate permissions can be set to View or Edit the Screen, Editor, Field or View.  Click the New Icon to add the Custom Permission to the list.

Click on the Plus Icon + to expand the Permissions until you find the Permission you want to assign.  Click on the Permission name and click finish at the bottom of the popup window.  Now only users granted access to the Custom Permission can View or Edit.

To control a field with a User Permission, right click on the filed name and click the Permissions... pop up to open the Specify Permissions pop up

Follow the same process to add the View or Edit User Permissions to the chosen field:

Click on the Plus Icon + to expand the Permissions until you find the Permission you want to assign.  Click on the Permission name and click finish at the bottom of the popup window.  Now only users granted access to the Custom Permission can View or Edit.
