BIRT overview

Business Intelligence Reporting Tools (BIRT) allow you to create reports that display any information from within BizApp. This information can be displayed in almost any way that you can imagine. Because BIRT reports are highly customizable, they can be difficult to understand at first. This introduction will help familiarize you with the basic concepts of BIRT reporting.

When you think about how much information is being stored in BizApp, you can see the importance of keeping this information organized. One of the ways we do this is with Report Libraries. A report library is a collection of data that can be shared between different report designs. You can browse the contents of these report libraries in the Library Explorer View.

The information displayed in a BIRT report comes from a datasource. These datasources are connected to the report through the JDBC API (Java Database Connectivity Application Programming Interface)

BIRT uses Data Sets to represent column data retrieved from Data Sources. These data set columns are different from Table element columns, which can be edited in the Binding Editor. Columns that are computed from existing information can also be added.
